Meow Wolf Trashion Show
Meow Wolf Grapevine commissioned runway pieces inspired by the prompt ‘celebrate’ which would be constructed of ‘trash’ or up-cycled materials. I was inspired by the Monarch butterfly, both because of the celebrations and excitement around spotting their migration through Texas, but also by the success of environmentalist efforts to rebuild their population.
The outer cloak is patterned after a chrysalis and was made with muslin scraps that were dyed with turmeric. The main dress was quilted from fabric scraps donated by local brand Hands of Harlow. I was inspired by scrap quilts to make use of the textile waste that I handle daily. The dress was then adorned with butterfly appliques made from more fabric scraps, paint, and thrifted beads.
