Laser Cut Viking Tunic
This costume set was inspired by the intricate tablet weave trim of medieval clothing, as well as costuming trends at renaissance festivals. I created a trim pattern which can be cut by a laser cutter so that more trim can be created faster. I also designed a matching belt and cloak which were also cut on the laser cutter. All of the patterns were designed digitally using Adobe illustrator and Gerber Accumark. These digital patterns could then be easily imported into the laser cutter
The trim and belt are made with a polyester faux suede, which melts slightly when the laser cuts or engraves it creating a clean edge finish and a good contrast. The cloak is made with felted wool, which also has a burned edge contrast after cutting. The tunic is cut in a historical style- all rectangles with gussets at the armholes for maximum fabric usage.
